Five Easy Steps to Fancy Folders
STEP 1
- Enter the names of the apps you want in your folders
STEP 2
- Choose A name for your Fancy Folder
STEP 3
- Choose whether to use round or icon shaped images in your Fancy Folder
STEP 4
- Choose the method to create your Fancy Folder (SSH or online)
STEP 5
- Open the Link to your Fancy Folder

- To make Fancy Folders More Useful, you can add them to the home screen or iOS 14 widgets and trigger them from there (you can even customize the home screen folder’s icon)
Hot Tip
- you can change whether your Fancy folder uses round menu icons or icon shaped menu icons. To get round icons, find the 5th action in your generated Fancy Folder shortcut (which says “If system version does not contain 14”) and change the number 14 to 13. You will now have round icons. If you have round icons already, change the number 13 to 14.
Another Hot Tip
- To add apps not available in the US App Store:
1) Go about half way through the shortcut to where there are two “Search App Store” actions. Expand those actions and select the App Store region you want to use.
2) Go about 4 actions further down to the get url action “https://itunes.apple.com/lookup?id=StoreID” and add your app store’s region code after the.com. For example, to search the uk store add “/gb” The new url should be “https://itunes.apple.com/gb/lookup?id=StoreID”.
A Final Hot Tip
- The online creation method uses a website created by a shortcuts community member named gluebyte.
Gluebyte is a well respected member of the shortcuts community. However, I have no affiliation with him and have not seen the source code he uses.
Also, your Fancy Folder code will be sent to his servers and he could theoretically view it if he saves such data (which I presume he doesn't do). So if you are worried about him checking what apps you open, use the SSH method instead.
To run the SSH method on iOS 15+, you need to grant the shortcut access to the mac and your mac needs to be on when you run the shortcut.
Visit System Preferences > Sharing
Click the Remote Login checkbox so Remote Login: shows as On
Find the line that looks like “To log in to this computer remotely, type “ssh
[email protected]
🔹Enter the numbers after the @ for the Host information (e.g. 192.158.3.33)
🔹Enter the information before the @ as the User (e.g. robric18)
🔹 For Authentication type, select Password
🔹Enter the password you use to unlock your mac as the password
