# Action Button Orientation | Shortcuts Library

> Changes the action button behavior based on both the orientation of the phone and on focus modes

## What this shortcut does

I created a shortcut that allows you to do different things based on the orientation of the phone, but then can be further modified by the focus mode.
You start by setting default behaviors for each of the six orientations your phone can be in - for example, I have “portraitUpsideDown” set to mute, because when it’s in my pocket it’s always upside down, and I have landscapeRight set to open my camera, because sideways like that makes it feel like a shutter button, and when my phone is faceUp it brings up a list of favorite people to call. You can make these do whatever you want. On top of that, you can modify these actions based on your focus modes - for example, if my focus mode is “Home”, faceUp orientation is instead set to turn on the tv and open the remote, and if the focus mode is “Sleep”, portrait orientation edits my sleep alarm, landscapeLeft sets brightness and volume appropriate for watching something late, and faceUp toggles the flashlight. If the shortcut can’t find a specific alternate instruction set to a focus mode, it defaults back to the 6 options for orientation.
There are 2 dictionaries in this shortcut - the bottom one sets the default behavior for each orientation, and the top sets the alternate behavior if a certain focus is active. You’ll make a separate shortcut with the desired behavior and then type the name of that shortcut into the dictionary to have it run in the desired context.
This shortcut requires “actions” for shortcuts. Found here: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1586435171
